How to use the transparent image maker

  1. Upload an image with a solid or near-solid background.
  2. Click anywhere on the image to pick that exact colour, or use the colour picker.
  3. Adjust tolerance if edges look rough, click Make transparent, then download the PNG.

Make a PNG background transparent

This tool works best when the background is a mostly solid colour. Pick the background colour, increase tolerance if there are slight shade differences, then export the result as PNG so the transparent areas are preserved.

Features

  • Click-to-pick colour sampling straight from your image
  • Adjustable tolerance for anti-aliased or slightly uneven backgrounds
  • Checkered preview so you can see the actual transparency
  • Runs entirely in your browser via the Canvas API

Frequently asked questions

This tool removes one specific colour (within your tolerance setting), so it works best on solid or near-solid backgrounds — product shots, logos, scanned signatures. For photos with complex backgrounds (people, scenery), use the Background Remover instead, which uses a different, AI-based approach.

If the original image was saved with anti-aliased edges blending into the background colour, some of that blend can remain. Try increasing the tolerance slightly, or use an image with a cleaner background if possible.

This tool exports PNG, since it's the most universally supported transparent format. Use the Image Format Converter afterward if you need WebP.

Transparency is easiest with a distinct background

Selecting a colour to remove works best when that colour is clearly different from the subject. Anti-aliased edges contain blended pixels, so very aggressive tolerance can eat into logos, hair or fine details.

  • Start with a low tolerance and increase it gradually.
  • Zoom in on edges before downloading.
  • Save as PNG or another transparency-supporting format; JPG cannot keep transparent pixels.
