Frequently asked questions
Browsers have no built-in way to write GIF (which needs LZW compression) or TIFF, and hand-rolling a full GIF encoder reliably is a much bigger undertaking than BMP or ICO, which are simple enough to build correctly from raw pixel data. We'd rather leave a format out than ship one that might produce a broken file.
You can upload one, but only its first frame will be used in the output — canvas-based conversion doesn't preserve animation.
That's a limit of the ICO file format itself, not this tool — its width/height fields can't represent anything larger. Resize your image first if it's bigger.
No, those still work exactly as before. This tool is for when you want one flexible converter, or need a format this dedicated tools don't cover, like BMP or ICO.

Pick a format for the destination
Format conversion is most useful when it solves a compatibility or size problem. JPG is widely supported for photos, PNG preserves transparency and sharp edges, and WebP is often efficient for the web; converting repeatedly between lossy formats can reduce quality.
- Use PNG when transparent pixels must be preserved.
- Use JPG for broadly compatible photographic output.
- Keep an original master rather than repeatedly re-saving a lossy copy.
